We wanted a project to celebrate our tenth anniversary—something we could learn and create together. Knife-making at AK University was the perfect choice.

Within 20 minutes, Andreas had us in the thick of the process. The class was intensive but never rushed, and the studio is beautiful, clean, and designed for learning. As total beginners, everything was new, yet Andreas made the basics accessible and kept the momentum fun and engaging. His enthusiasm and depth of knowledge turn any question into a fascinating window into the history, artistry, and craft of knife-making. We didn’t just learn how to shape metal—we learned about wood, steel, and the range of techniques that bring a knife to life.

Our favorite part was how personalized the experience felt. Andreas guided us through customizing two beautiful knives and even etched a meaningful drawing into each one. They’re not just tools—they’re conversation pieces and household treasures that mark our anniversary.

This class set the standard high. Andreas balances structure with flexibility, pivoting to each student’s interests, and it’s clear he can teach everyone—from absolute beginners like us to advanced makers refining specific techniques. We’ve even started following local knife-makers because our appreciation for the craft has grown so much. Next up: we can’t wait to bring our girls for the children’s wooden-knife class.

Start to finish, it was all Andreas—attentive, imaginative, and fully present. We left as proud makers with a whole new respect for the art
