I joined AK University because I wanted to learn something useful and hands-on—something I could be proud of making myself. I’ve worked with tools before, but knife making was completely new to me, which made the whole thing exciting.

The experience was enjoyable from start to finish. Working with the machines and tools was completely new, and heat treating the blade was one of my favorite parts. Nothing was too difficult, but everything was interesting, and I learned something at every stage.

The most surprising part was realizing how much detail goes into a single knife. The shaping, the symmetry, the contours, the handle work—every tiny detail matters. I had no idea so much effort went into something that looks simple when it’s finished.

Andreas was patient, clear, and willing to repeat steps when I felt overwhelmed. That made a huge difference. I also loved how organized the shop was—every tool had a specific place and purpose, which made the whole workflow smoother and easier.

The experience exceeded my expectations. I left with new skills, a new appreciation for the craft, and the confidence to return and continue learning. AK University created an environment where I felt welcomed and supported, even without having all the equipment at home.
