From Woodworking to Blade Mastery, My Journey with AK UNIVERSITY
My journey with AK UNIVERSITY began with my long-standing interest in metalwork, fueled by my background in woodworking and sharpening hand tools. My recent involvement in martial arts, especially with edged weapons, combined with my passion for fishing, camping, and cooking, made AKU’s knife-making classes the perfect fit. Watching YouTube videos about metalworking only further sparked my curiosity and led me to enroll.
Every moment at AKU was incredibly enriching. While I may not have mastered any specific technique yet, I’ve gained significant confidence in my ability to continue toward mastery on my own. The learning environment at AKU was casual yet fast-paced, tailored to my understanding and progress. My instructor, Andreas, provided invaluable insights and guidance, balancing attention and autonomy perfectly.
AKU’s courses exceeded my expectations. Despite being prepared for the high level of artistry and craftsmanship, I was surprised by my ability to design and craft a beautiful blade in just two days, thanks to Andreas’ expert guidance. The course was well-structured to accommodate different skill levels, and I appreciated the patience and cooperation from my instructor when I pushed beyond the typical project scope.
One of my standout moments was watching Andreas work on the grinder. His skill and precision were inspiring, highlighting the importance of experience and repetition. The hands-on learning at AKU was unmatched, accelerating my learning curve and addressing challenges I faced in my prior attempts at blade crafting.
Since joining AKU, my interest in knives has only deepened. I’ve been practicing diligently and plan to book another class soon to further hone my skills. It’s clear that upgrading my grinder will be my next step to achieve more professional results.
A special shout-out to Andreas, who made my AKU journey truly special. His professionalism, passion, and humility were evident throughout the course. He was eager to learn as much as he was to instruct, which perfectly suited my learning style. Andreas’ patience and ability to communicate effectively helped me appreciate not just the techniques but the artistry behind knife-making.
The variety of courses at AKU is outstanding, offering endless opportunities for creativity and skill development. The flexible scheduling suited my style perfectly, making the entire experience enjoyable and productive. Andreas and I were just two dudes making a blade together, and it was a blast. Thanks, Andreas, and thank you, AKU, for an unforgettable experience
